Diploma in Arts and Media (Graphics and Multimedia) (Level 6)


If you want to live creatively and turn your talent for graphics and multimedia into your career, the Diploma in Arts and Media (Graphics and Multimedia) is a great way to start.

The diploma also offers students the opportunity to major in Visual Arts and Design or Contemporary Music. These options are listed separately.

YEAR 3 (Level 6)

All applicants:

All applicants may be invited to attend an interview to find out about the programme and their suitability for it.

Computer literacy: A reasonable level of computer literacy is needed. The programme involves producing work in all forms.

Applicants are required to submit a portfolio demonstrating relevant graphic design and computing experience. 

Application Portfolio Requirements

Applicants under 20 years:

  • A minimum of 42 credits at Level 3 or higher on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF), including al least 14 credits at NCEA Level 3 (OR equivalent) in each of two subjects, of which at least one relates to English; and at least one is from the subject list below; with a further 14 credits at Level 3 or higher taken from no more than two additional domains on the NQF

OR Successful completion of a recognised art / media foundation programme or equivalent, for example the Level 5 courses within the Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology Diploma in Arts and Media. 

Applicants 20 years and over:

  • No academic qualifications are required

Applicants whose first language is not English are required to demonstrate an IELTS Academic score of 6.0 or equivalent.

Graduates of this programme may establish an independent arts
or media practice, seek employment in the arts / media sectors
or continue with further study such as the Bachelor of Arts
and Media.
