Entry Requirements

Applicants under 20 years:
  • At least 8 credits at NCEA Level 1 showing basic literacy; or equivalent
  • At least 8 credits at NCEA Level 1 showing basic numeracy; or equivalent

Applicants 20 years and over:

  • No minimum academic requirements

All applicants:

  • Likelihood of success on the programme demonstrated by an interview 

Applicants whose first language is not English are required to deminstrate an IELTS academic score of 5.0 (with at least 5.0 in each band) in the last two years; OR equivalent.
Prior learning or work experience may be credited to this programme of study.

> What's Next


Graduates will be able to follow safe working practices in a carpentry workshop and perform basic operations with hand, power and machine tools. They will be qualified to work as entry-level construction site workers, pre-cut factory workers and in the retail sector of the building and construction industry. This qualification will assist graduates in obtaining an apprenticeship and completing the practical requirements towards the National Certificate in Carpentry (Level 4).
