Study whilst employed as an apprentice in the Automotive industry. Choose from a wide variety of elective courses to cater for your area of interest.

Programme structure:
  • Studied part time in block and evening classes over 3 or more years
  • Starts February
  • Nelson campus
Content includes:

Compulsory courses provide a generic understanding and skill base of automotive skills, after which students can pursue their chosen area of speciality by choosing from the suite of elective courses. 

Entry Requirements

Applicants under 20 years:

  • At least 8 credits NCEA Level 1 showing basic literacy; or equivalent
  • At least 8 credits NCEA Level 1 showing basic numeracy; or equivalent

Applicants over 20 years:

  • No minimum academic requirements

All applicants:

  • Likelihood of success on the programme demonstrated by an interview
  • Student must hold the appropriate drivers license prior to attempting any unit standards that require it
  • Apprentices must have a 3-party contract between themselves, NMIT and their employer

Applicants whose first language is not English are required to demonstrate an IELTS academic score of 5.0 (with at least 5.0 in each band) issued in the last two years; OR equivalent.

This programme has not been approved for international students.
