Short Award - Nail Technology


This short award* is designed for those people who wish to perform a range of beauty services to include consulting with clients, establishing the needs of clients, selling beauty services to meet clients’ needs and performing a range of services relating to nail augmentation with underpinning knowledge of the science related to these services to ensure safe and professional practice.

Entry Requirements and Selection

Applicants under 20:

A minimum of 12 credits at NCEA level 1 in each of 3 subjects or equivalent

Applicants over 20 or above

Open entry

Completion Requirements

Students who complete this short award will have completed 38 credits towards the National Certificate in Beauty Services (Nail Technology) Level 4. In addition if students also complete the NMIT Certificate in Beauty Therapy course ‘Manicure and Pedicure Treatments’ plus a first aid certificate they will be eligible for the National Certificate in Beauty Services (Nail Technology) Level 4.

> What's Next


Graduates will be able to work in the beauty industry as a beauty assistant with special skills in nail technology.  They will be able to consult with a client, establish the needs of a client, sell beauty goods and services to meet client needs in nail technology .
