New Zealand Diploma in Business


This nationally recognised programme gives a practical introduction to the fundamentals of marketing, management, accounting and other business skills. Courses are offered online but can be largely studied face to face by taking equivalent Bachelor of Commerce degree courses.

Programme structure:
  • 240 credits, equivalent to two years of fulltime study
  • 12 courses, including six compulsory (from 7)
  • Transportable across New Zealand
  • Choose to study the whole qualification or specific courses of interest
  • Starts February and July
  • Most courses have final exams requiring attendance
  • Online or face to face (Nelson and Marlborough campuses)
  • Online learners require access to a computer and the internet
Content includes:

Accounting Principles, Introduction to Commercial Law, Economic Environment, Organisation and Management, Business Communications, Fundamentals of Marketing, Business Computing, Business Finance, Taxation, Leadership, Applied Management, Human Resources Management


Entry requirements

Applicants under 20 years:

  • A minimum of 14 credits at NCEA Level 1 mathematics AND 
  • 50 credits at NCEA Level 2 or above with at least 12 credits in each of three subjects including a minimum of 4 credits in reading and 4 in writing.

All Applicants: 

Applicants whose first language is not English are required to demonstrate an IELTS academic score of 6.0; OR equivalent.

Graduating students are work-ready for a variety of careers including accounting technician, middle management, sales and marketing assistants, banking or human resources.
