Certificate in Foundation Nursing


Open the door to tertiary education and a possible nursing career with this programme. Specially designed for mature students who haven’t recently studied at tertiary level, the certificate aims to develop confidence and help students prepare to apply for the Bachelor of Nursing or other health related options.

Programme structure
  • Level 4
  • Nelson campus - a full-time, 14 week programme starting in August
  • Marlborough campus - a part-time, 30 week programme starting in March

Content includes

  • Study and communication skills
  • Health studies
  • Foundation skills for nursing
  • Aotearoa / New Zealand studies
  • Biophysical basis for health.

 

>Entry Requirements

Applicants under 20 years*:

  • Must have a minimum of 40 credits at NCEA Level 2 across four subjects including a minimum of 12 credits at NCEA Level 2 in English (or equivalent).

Applicants 20 years and over:

  • No minimum academic requirements.

Applicants whose first language is not English are required to demonstrate an IELTS academic score of 5.5 (with no less than 5.5 in each band) issued within the last two years; OR equivalent.

*Note: Students under 20 years of age who successfully complete the programme may qualify under exceptional circumstances for entry on to the Bachelor of Nursing programme.

Graduates may apply for ntry to the Bachelor of Nursing or other health related options.
