Trades Courses

NMIT’s Trades programmes have a strong focus on “hands on” careers and provide training for some of the region’s key industries including: building construction, automotive, engineering machining and heavy fabrication. Training is available for those wishing to enter these trades and those already working in industry. Staff are well qualified and work closely with industry to ensure that programmes are aligned with their needs.

Carpentry Apprentice
Do you want to complete a carpentry apprenticeship in the building industry?

Certificate in Automotive Engineering (Level 4)
During this apprentice programme you can choose from a wide variety of elective courses to cater for your area of interest.
  • A MITO (Motor Industry Training Organisation) recognised programme
  • Study whilst employed as an apprentice - earn as you learn
  • Study in part time blocks or evening classes

Certificate in Carpentry
Get your building career off to a great start with this comprehensive certificate. The popularity of this programme reflects the excellent employment opportunities for graduates.
  • Good introduction to a wide range of building skills
  • Knowledge of the building industry
  • A clear advantage when you go out looking for a job or apprenticeship
  • The experience needed to further your studies or gain semi-skilled employment on a building site

Certificate in Engineering Trades
Get a head start in your career in mechanical engineering.
  • A recognised entry for students to take up apprenticeships in mechanical engineering trades
  • Equivalent to the first year of an apprenticeship
  • Involves practical and theoretical training

Certificate in Entry to Automotive Engineering (Level 2)
A great place to start if you like the idea of working with vehicle engines.
  • Includes workplace experience

Certificate in Trades and Primary Industries
A vocational-based course designed to give you a taste of the range of trades and primary industry-based programmes on offer at NMIT.
  • Programme delivery meets Youth Guarantee criteria

National Certificate in Motor Industry (Automotive Electrical and Mechanical Engineering) (Level 4) Light Vehicle Strand
Study whilst employed as an apprentice in the automotive industry. Choose from a wide variety of elective courses to cater for your area of interest.
