The Certificate in Community Integration and the Certificate in Training for Work Skills are supported training programmes designed for students with learning disabilities. The NMIT School of Health and Social Sciences is planning to offer a Bachelor of Applied Social Science (BAppSocSci) with endorsements in social work and counselling, with Level 5 being introduced in 2011, subject to final approval. This qualification will be owned by Waikato Institute of Technology (Wintec) and delivered through the Nelson campus by NMIT staff. This qualification would, through transition arrangements, eventually replace the three year Level 7 Diploma in Applied Counselling and the two year Level 6 NMIT Diploma in Social Work, which includes the National Diploma in Social Work.
