The English Language Centre can tailor a programme for groups of 10 students or more.
Our standard programme for groups is Active English. This course is for International students and Permanent Residents who wish to study over 4 weeks (or longer). The course can be studied either full-time or part-time (mornings only) according to your group's requirements. During the course you will develop your English abilities in reading, writing, listening, speaking, vocabulary, grammar and functional English through theme work and take part in some activities outside of the classroom. This course is recommended both for students who wish to study towards communicative English for travel and for work, and for students who want to study towards future tertiary education in an English speaking country. Placement Assessment On your first day you will have a campus orientation with members of the International Education team. After your orientation you will be taken to the English Language Centre where you will complete a Placement Assessment to assess your English language level and we will talk to you about your study goals. Your assessment result will assist us to place you in a class to suit your personal needs and your study goals. The Placement Assessment includes reading, writing, listening and speaking. There is no pass or fail. Extension Extension is a monitored self-access facility in the well-resourced Library Learning Centre. Here you can focus on particular skills, including examination preparation, in an environment where you are also able to access numerous English Language resources including Language Learning software with tutor guidance. Extension is an integrated part of your learning programme and the materials in Extension are developed to assist you to build on your classroom work (themes, vocabulary, grammar points etc). It is possible for students to do extra work on all the skill areas taught in the classroom, e.g. listening, speaking, writing, reading, grammar, vocabulary building and study skills. There is no additional cost for extension.
