Our Region

The Nelson-Marlborough region’s diverse economy includes the country’s largest concentration of fisheries, wine and aquaculture industries. It also has substantial forestry, horticulture, aviation, tourism and arts industries as well as a sizeable conservation estate, including three national parks.

NMIT has developed programmes that sustain the region’s infrastructure, either directly through specific industry training, or more generally, with our business and computer technology programmes. We have also developed a range of specialised programmes in niche areas in conjunction with local business and industry representatives.

Our region is one of the most beautiful and desirable areas in New Zealand to live and study. Each year, NMIT attracts around 3600 equivalent full time students who come to enjoy the scenery, beaches, sunny warm climate, culture, relaxed lifestyle and educational opportunities Nelson and Marlborough have to offer.
