Horticulture Tutorial Assistant

Marlborough - Nelson/Marlborough

Are you looking for an opportunity to be involved in the delivery of Horticulture and Viticulture education in the heart of one of New Zealand’s largest horticulture producing regions?

NMIT is the main tertiary provider of Horticulture in the top of the South Island. Our Horticulture and Viticulture programmes have a strong practical industry focus, and this role contributes to their ongoing development and delivery.

If you wish to be part of an enthusiastic team and enjoy working with new developments then this is the opportunity for you. We expect the successful candidate to have a relevant tertiary qualification, horticulture industry experience, strong computing skills and, ideally, appropriate teaching experience.  A proven track record in industry would be an advantage.

Other details:  Fixed term for one year / 28.8 hours per week / Marlborough Campus

Student Advisor - International

Nelson City - Nelson/Marlborough

You will be looking after the needs of our international students from the moment they arrive in Nelson.  This is a challenging and diverse role.  You will need: 

  • Excellent people skills, patience, and ability to empathise; whilst remaining objective
  • Organisation and time management skills
  • Ability to multi-task and to ‘think on your feet’
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Willingness and ability to work flexible hours for airport arrivals
  • Proven administration and computer skills & experience
  • Experience with people from other cultures

Difficult situations will arise.  Your ability to keep claim and offer practical solutions, while also being a sympathetic ear, is an important aspect of being a Student Advisor.  Demonstrate your skills in your covering letter - include a brief outline of how you would respond to the students in these scenarios:

  1. Atul is homesick and wants to return home.
  2. Sven tells you he has a gambling problem.
  3. Claudia wants to change her homestay for the fourth time.
